CMS Portals
CMS Portals (Web Portals) is a kind of Content Management
Systems (CMS) that provide personalized capabilities to their visitors. With
portal CMS a webmaster can create community-based portals with an automated web
site allowing users and editors to post new items, comment articles, discuss
different topics, etc.
Some CMS are better suitable for to create web portals than others. That doesn't
mean that they can not be used as more regular CMS for developing and updating
your web site. It just means that it is easier to create online communities
with these systems.
These CMS portals can be extended with plugins, modules, hacks, etc. You can also
change the look and feel with a lot of skins/themes, both free one's and commercial
skins/themes. There is also a variety of languages supported if you don't use
English. With many of these systems you can also integrate other software, e.g.
galleries, wikis, etc.
NOTE: Demos of the software below will soon
be ready on our demo site.
XOOPS
XOOPS is a program that allows administrators to easily create
dynamic websites with great content and many outstanding features. It is an ideal
tool for developing small to large dynamic community websites, intra company portals,
corporate portals, weblogs and much more.
XOOPS is an acronym of eXtensible Object Oriented Portal System. Though started as
a portal system, XOOPS is in fact striving steadily on the track of Content Management
System. It can serve as a web framework for use by small, medium and large sites.
A lite XOOPS can be used as a personal weblog or journal. For this purpose, you can
do a standard install, and use its News module only. For a medium site, you can use
modules like News, Forum, Download, Web Links etc to form a community to interact
with your members and visitors. For a large site as an enterprise one, you can develop
your own modules such as eShop, and use XOOP's uniform user management system to
seamlessly integrate your modules with the whole system.
XOOPS is fully modularized which means that functions can be added or deleted; the
look can be modified with skins/themes. There are also many different language files
available as well as support in many different languages.
